There are two types of girls in this world: those who wear red lipstick and those who do not.

I spent the majority of my whole life being a naysayer to a rouge pout. “I cannot pull off red!” I can hear my inner monologue voice, who sometimes sounds like Lucille Ball – my favorite redheaded comrade – saying, as I smudge red on my face and wipe it off and curse because I look like 8 year old me who just passionately made out with a red popsicle. No no no. Even when I decided to put on my big girl panties and trust that even though I felt like a clown wearing lipstick, I didn’t look like one, I still only wore pinks and corals and sometimes berries, but never red lipstick.

That was until I found Revlon’s Red Lacquer shade of lipstick. It’s the holy grail of grocery store lipstick, let me just tell you. It’s a bright, not quite neon but oh so glamorously close, orange tinted red. It’s slightly sheer, which makes me feel less like this and more like this.

Ladies, if you’re afraid of red lipstick, don’t be. It works on everyone… I promise. It takes a few tries to get it on and for heaven’s sake try it at home when you’re alone or your boyfriend miiiiight think you ate spaghetti like a piglet for lunch.

This post was created in collaboration with 50 Dresses. Thank you so much to Colleen O’Brien for the photos.
